Welcome, fellow anglers! One of the greatest joys of staying at our Panama City Beach house is the incredible access to world-class fishing. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or looking to cast a line for the very first time, Panama City Beach offers diverse fishing opportunities for every skill level.
From our incredibly convenient location, you’re never far from your next big catch. Let’s dive into where you can fish, what you can expect to reel in, and how to make the most of your angling adventure!
1. Saltwater Piers & Jetties: Easy Access & Abundant Catches
For a relaxing day of fishing with no boat required, Panama City Beach’s piers and jetties are fantastic options. They offer easy access and the chance to catch a wide variety of saltwater species.

- Russell Fields City Pier (.3 miles away for a roughly 6-minute walk):
- Highlights: As one of the longest piers on the Gulf of Mexico (over 1,500 feet!), It’s a prime spot for both fishing and sightseeing. No fishing license is required on the pier itself. You can rent gear here, too!
- Address: 16201 Front Beach Rd, Panama City Beach, FL 32413
- What you might catch: Mackerel (King, Spanish), Sheepshead, Flounder, Redfish, Drum, Whiting, Pompano, and various baitfish.
- Pro Tip for Our Guests: This pier is located across from Pier Park, making it easy to grab lunch or explore shops after your fishing session. It’s often open 24/7, perfect for early risers or night owls! The pier lot offers free parking, and additional parking is available along Front Beach Road if the lot is full, but it’s a short walk, so you probably won’t need to drive.
- MB Miller County Pier (3.5 miles away from the Airbnb, roughly a 10-minute drive):
- Highlights: Another excellent choice for pier fishing, often a bit less crowded than City Pier. Similar rules and species apply.
- Address: 12213 Front Beach Rd, Panama City Beach, FL 32407
- What you might catch: Similar to Russell Fields City Pier, with good chances for game fish migrating through.
- The Jetties at St. Andrew’s State Park (10.4 miles away, roughly a 23-minute drive):
- Highlights: These iconic jetties offer incredible jetty fishing opportunities, especially for those looking to target larger species or enjoy a more “natural” fishing experience. The West Jetty is accessible within the park; the East Jetty (on Shell Island) requires boat access.
- Address: 4607 State Park Ln, Panama City, FL 32408
- What you might catch: Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Spanish Mackerel, Jack Crevalle, and even Tarpon (seasonal).
- Guest Recommendation: St. Andrew’s State Park is a must-visit for its stunning natural beauty. Consider making a full day of it – fish the jetties, then relax on the beach or explore the nature trails. Park entry fees apply.
2. Surf Fishing: Cast from Our Front Deck(Almost!)
Imagine stepping right out onto the sand and casting your line into the Gulf! Surf fishing is a fantastic, accessible way to fish, and our beach house’s proximity to the shallow waters makes it incredibly convenient. We are steps away from the beach access!
- Highlights: You can surf fish for various fish species almost anywhere along the Emerald Coast. All you need is a surf rod and reel, and a valid Florida saltwater fishing license (unless fishing on a licensed pier).
- What you might catch: Pompano, Redfish, Drum, Whiting, Mackerel, Sheepshead, Bluefish, and even smaller sharks.
- Best Times: Sunrise, sunset, or nighttime are generally the most productive periods.
- Friendly Reminder: Always be mindful of swimmers and beachgoers, especially during peak hours.
3. Deep Sea Fishing: An Offshore Adventure Awaits!
For the thrill of the open water and the chance to battle truly massive fish, deep-sea fishing is an unforgettable experience. Panama City Beach is renowned for its offshore opportunities.

- Where to Get One: You can purchase licenses online through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) website (we’ll provide a direct link for convenience) or at local bait and tackle shops.
- Types of Licenses: Ensure you obtain the correct license (saltwater, freshwater, or both) based on your intended fishing location. Non-resident licenses are available for 3-day, 7-day, or annual periods.
- Regulations: Always be aware of current size and bag limits for different species. The FWC website is your best resource for up-to-date regulations.
- License-Free Days: Keep an eye out for Florida’s annual license-free fishing days – a great opportunity to try fishing without a license!
